The beer drinker’s haven
Brian from the NYC MetBlog got me all interested in a new (to me) website called RateBeer.com. In theory, at this website, you join up and submit ratings…of beer. Any beer. It’s FREE, and you are eligible to enjoy free offers like this really cool one Brian blogged about earlier tonight.
Which triggered something in my memory…a few weeks ago, there was an article that passed through the PhillyFuture front page about the tri-state/Philly region housing 10 of the top 100 small breweries in the world. And true enough, a quick search turned up the article from the Inquirer!
Ten small breweries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware earned spots on a recent list of the 100 best in the world. Pennsylvania had five in the ranking by RateBeer.com, third behind California, with 10, and Michigan, with seven.
“I think eastern Pennsylvania is the best place in the United States to be a beer drinker right now,” said Brian O’Reilly, brewmaster at Sly Fox Brewhouse, which came in 54th and has locations in Phoenixville and Royersford.
The ten breweries (in order of appearance) were:
9. Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, Del
14. Victory Brewing Co. in Downingtown
24. Stoudt’s Brewing Co. in Adamstown
26. Troegs Brewing Co. in Harrisburg
35. McKenzie Brew House in Glen Mills
41. Triumph Brewing Co. in Princeton and New Hope
54. Sly Fox Brewhouse in Phoenixville and Royersford
56. Heavyweight Brewing Co. in Ocean Township, Monmouth County, N.J.
67. High Point Wheat Beer Co. in northern New Jersey
82. Iron Hill in Newark, Del.
Check that out. We really are a beer drinker’s haven right here!
