Dar Williams

So I wanted to give everyone a heads up about a great, very cheap concert coming up. I wrote about Patty Griffin at the Upper Merion Concerts Under the Stars awhile back, but after the concert had taken place, not very helpful.

This Sunday at 7 pm, Dar Williams will be playing the Concert Under the Stars. I saw her do this show two years ago, and it was a magic experience. It was just Dar and a guitar, standing on a little stage, singing her old and new music for almost two hours.

The crowd is a blend of families with kids and dogs, couples having romantic evenings with wine on a blanket and groups like me and my friends, eating Wawa hoagies on big blue tarps and blankets. There’s always a guy with a big wooden board of soft pretzels, running around the grounds, selling his wares, his young daughter helping by taking money and making change. There’s a playground for restless kids and enough field for those who want to play frisbee.

Ten dollars gets you in, and if you are under 16 or over 62, you get in for free. No cost parking is in a big grassy field, and while I’ve had a couple moments where I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it out, I’ve never gotten stuck.

So bring your family, your friends, your dog and your dinner and come on out on Sunday night. It’ll be fun, I promise.
