Jobs: Philly vs. Chicago

I’ve enjoyed the past 10 days in and around Chicago, but I’m glad to be back in Philly.

There is something about Chicago that really rubbed me the wrong way, though. Everywhere I went, there were big, bold signs declaring that everywhere was hiring!! I’m in need of a job so bad that it hurt to see that I could have a job if I was in Chicago. (Also rubbing me the wrong way: I almost moved to Chicago last summer.)

So why aren’t we hiring for servers, waiters, and cashiers at all the restaurants, stores, and bars in the area? What’s the deal?

I know that fellow blogger Jay is also struggling with this joblessness stuff, but I’m trying to understand it. What do we have that Chicago doesn’t?

Oh.
Right.
We have too many overqualified grads flooding our job market.
