We’re number 2!! When will we be number 1?

Yes Philly came close again…Ranking number two on the list of Best Sport Cities ranked by SportingNews.com I saw the posting on the internet and tried to view their site, but when I looked something was a little off with the content. Maybe it was an angry Philly fan :) I digress. They created a list, and have been doing so for a few years now, based upon the following criteria.

Once a city meets the minimum criteria, we take a 12-month snapshot, roughly from July to July, of its sports atmosphere, putting a heavy premium on regular-season records (from the most recently completed season); playoff berths, bowl appearances and tournament bids; championships; applicable power ratings; quality of competition; overall fan fervor, as measured in part by attendance as a percentage of venue capacity; fan knowledge; abundance of teams, (though we reward quality over quantity); stadium/arena quality; ticket availability and prices; franchise ownership; and marquee appeal of athletes.

Oh guess who is ranked as the America’s Best Sports City?? Congrats [grumble…grumble] Boston!!!

I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with being number 2. We’re Philly, it kind of fits.

I’ve got Boston roots, so I’ll admit to being glad about this particular ranking. Once Matt’s sister was visiting Beantown, and he recounted her report to him: “You’d love it! Sports are like a religion up here!”

“Take away the word ‘like'” I advised sagely, “and she’ll finally understand….”
