Minar Palace
So I have a thing for cheap, ethnic restaurants with the word “palace” in the name. Tonight I indulged this affinity with a visit to Minar Palace on Sansom Street, between 16th and 17th. For those not in the know, Minar Palace is a completely unassuming Indian place, with amazingly good food. The plates are paper, the cutlery plastic, the service a little hostile, but after your first bite, all that is forgotten. Tonight I got Chicken Tikka Masala, for $6. It includes rice and a little cabbage salad and is really enough for two meals. Some of my other favorites include the Lamb Korma, the samosas and of course, the garbanzo beans with spinach. Minar Palace is my roommate’s favorite restaurant of all time, he eats there at least three times a week. Check it out.

I LOVE Minar! Man, this post makes me wanna go over there again. And soon. :)
Ditto that. I used to walk by all the time and you could smell that great indian scent a few blocks away. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
I have tried Minar, and it seems the ownership or the people who manage the place rather be at make-over convention. Either they should start smiling or have a smile cosmetically pasted on their face. I have had a very awkward experience there. That being said, my personal favorite Indian place is New Delhi in university city. I would be shocked if someone who has tried this place did not agree with my assessment. Tally HO!!!
I’m gonna agree with Jack…the Indian places in U. City are WAY WAY better than Minar. But Samosa is also pretty damn good, by way of Indian foods.
One of the reasons I eat where I do is because I want a place that has at least neutral service. I just don’t tolerate bad service over and over again.
