Have you ever wanted to know exactly where you are?

Well I guess I have. Take a look at Plazez.com I was introduced to this site by a co-worker. It feels Big Brotherish, but at the same time is kinda neat. They tie in nicely with Flickr.com in that you use a Plazes tag when submitting Flickr images and then those images can be found when looking for coordinates or the city name within the Plazes Page. Also it seems if you are the first to descover a Plaze you have become the owner of that Plaze!

This is what Plazes has to say about this new software.

This is Plazes:
Plazes is a grassroot approach to location-aware interaction, using the local network you are connected to as location reference. Plazes allows you to share you location with the people you know and to discover people and plazes around you. It’s the navigation system for your social life and it’s absolutely free.

Plaze = Location + Context:
A Plaze is a physical location with a local network – private or public, wired or unwired. A Plaze constitutes of the information about the actual location like pictures, comments and mapping information, as well as the people currently online at that Plaze.

    I just checked out Meetro.com and found it lacking. I saw that it doesn’t do the same as Plazes. Plazes has a map and you can find things near you. Maybe it was because it’s 8:30 at night for Meetro, or the fact that it’s Chicago based, but there wasn’t anyone within 100 miles of me. I may need to investigate it more, but so far I am a Plazes fan. I bet if Meetro explained it more I might like it better.

    Wow and I was plugging one of my own people’s product and didn’t even know it! What a small, small world :) Nice work, I think my company might start using it to see which office people are working at…so far there are 5 of us signed up. An excutive at Lotus Notes, Ed Brill, blogged about Plazes a few weeks ago. http://www.edbrill.com/ebrill/edbrill.nsf/dx/where-is-simonbarratt . Looks like it’s getting big. Nice work!

    Hi Ian,

    I think the number of registered people from our company is at least 12 now. I keep pushing it.
