Derby Crown

I’ll admit that I don’t follow Philly sports particularly closely. Still, it’s impossible to have missed the news about Bobby Abreu’s victory in last night’s Home Run Derby.

41. Wow.

Only here’s the thing. If I’m reading his current stats correctly, Abeu’s got only 18 homers in regular play for the first half of the season. I know that the derby’s set up to make home run hitting easier than it is in actual game play. But is it usual for the derby winner to get more than twice as many HRs in one night than he has on the season?

Or is this just another sign of Ed Wade’s ineptitude as a manager?

I watched this (mostly) on ESPN last night with Cory; it made for great television. Bobby is a really fun person to watch!
