Light Up My Night

Tonight at 9 PM is the scheduled relighting [1] of Boathouse Row [2].
In its pitch [3] for “Relighting Boathouse Row,” channel 10’s website opines:
A new LED system will be safer, more energy efficient and cost less to maintain. And, the aesthetic improvement will be dramatic. Imagine the boathouse having the capability to light in red, white and blue for the Fourth of July. All this, and much more, will be possible with an LED system.
I saw footage of Tuesday night’s test run on last night’s 10′o’clock WB-17 news [4]. I have to admit that the multi-colored flashing and shifts made the familiar angles and rooflines look somehow more foreign. It was a modern and harder-edged impression than I remember the old white bulbs conveying.
Regardless, I’m curious to see if my initial impresison changes, and I’m happy to see those familiar light-outlines along the river once more. If you want to see it in person, there’s a viewing area scheduled on West River Drive (er, I mean Martin Luther King Boulevard)–activities start around 7.
If TV coverage is more your speed, NBC-10 will have a preview show [5] at 7:30, and promises a live telecast (even if it doesn’t show on the evening’s broadcast schedule. NBC-10 also promises a live webcast on their site [6], for the inveterate websurfer.
